AAPA's Performing Arts course is one of Australia’s most vital courses for young performers seeking to enter a career in the entertainment industry.

The course is a one-year intensive that provides training alongside Australia's best theatre practitioners and industry professionals from around the world. It provides a strong grounding in acting and audition technique, dance skills and vocal technique as well acting for screen and the history of musical theatre.

It also seeks to make students industry-ready through a range of practical and hands on classes built around rehearsal and performance opportunities, and includes an interstate multi-day excursion where students can see some of the best live theatre on offer in Australia and take part in classes & workshops in Sydney & Melbourne.

Students who complete AAPA’s Performing Arts course are eligible to gain entry into AAPA's Advance Musical Theatre course and the prestigious Performance Course. Many AAPA graduates also go on to further studies at university level performing arts courses such as Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), while others enter the industry upon graduation.

AAPA provides flexible and personalized training with a view to building each student’s skill base across all disciplines of musical theatre. We believe that the best training for success in the entertainment industry should be highly practical and unencumbered by written assignments and exams, which is why the base course remains non-accredited, to ensure maximum time is spent on building skills that matter. Throughout the course, students are assisted in preparing all required material to sit for Certificate or Diploma qualification examination through Trinity College London at the close of the course if they choose. As opposed to qualifications that can be attained through VET at other institutions which are only recognised in Australia, qualifications attained at AAPA through Trinity College London are internationally recognised, which opens a doorway for our students to work on stages across the globe.

In an effort to ensure students have the opportunity engage with as many industry professionals as possible, students are taken on a multi-day interstate excursion to see live theatre in Sydney & Melbourne and take part in Q&A's, workshop and meet & greet opportunities with some of Australia's most respected working artists. This excursion also allows students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with Australia's major arts cities and experience life on tour.

AAPA is the only training institution in Australia housed within a major performing arts venue (Hayward Street Theatre), which is also home to production companies like AVT LIVEArenavent Theatrical and Quid Pro Co, and renowned talent agency, Dare Artist Management. Students are afforded the opportunity to train in the same venue where some of Australia's biggest theatre stars are rehearsing, performing and managing their careers, and the students regularly benefit from a range of formal and informal encounters with these luminaries.

While training at AAPA, students are represented through Dare Artist Management, which means they can be put forward for auditions for film, television and theatre projects. Part of the training at AAPA provides students with guidance in how to navigate external auditions, negotiations with agents and conduct themselves in a professional setting.

AAPA's Performing Arts Course provides students with a doorway into the industry and with the skills required to succeed and thrive.
